Larisa Benson helps leaders and teams achieve measurable performance improvements, creating a virtuous cycle that reinforces value for citizens, customers and employees. A three-time national award winner for innovation and transformation in the public sector, she is an experienced leader, teacher, and coach who knows how to inspire excellence in teams.
Larisa teaches at the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington where she helped to launch the Executive MPA program. Her current courses include strategic thinking, executive leadership, lean management, and performance measurement. She conceived and launched the Local Government Performance Center, a resource dedicated to helping local governments work better, cost less, and be more responsive to the citizens they serve. She served as director of former Washington State Governor Gregoire’s performance improvement initiative (called “GMAP”), which contributed measurable improvements including the lowest highway fatality rate in the history of the state, millions of dollars in savings through consolidated purchasing, and significant and sustained reductions in the rate of repeat child abuse.
Larisa’s consultative specialties include results focused performance improvement projects, training and organizational strategy, lean thinking, employee engagement, creating high performance teams and coaching for leaders at all levels of an organization. She is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, certified in the DiSC assessment tools (360-degree, work of leaders and managers) and an authorized partner for Patrick Lencioni’s Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team.
